Zeolite (Clinoptilolite) is a natural mined mineral amendment that provides unique and distinct benefits to the soil. Zeolite is effective either applied alone and worked into the soil or applied as part of a custom compost-based amendment blend.
Zeolite Benefits
NUTRIENT RETENTION
Zeolite has a natural and permanent negative ionic charge. This negative charge (-) adds cation exchange capacity (CEC) to soils.
This negative charge attracts and holds positively charged ions (cations). Nutrients, such as like ammonium (NH₄⁺), potassium (K⁺), calcium (Ca²⁺), magnesium (Mg²⁺), and trace elements, attach to the Zeolite. This attachment helps prevent nutrients from leaching out of the root zone, out of reach to plants and trees, while natural cation exchange processes make the nutrients available to plants.
ENHANCED WATER RETENTION
Zeolite has a honeycomb-like microcrystalline structure. Its porous structure can hold up to 60% of its weight in water while keeping soil aerated. This increases soil moisture in the root zone, reduces runoff and erosion (especially on slopes), and helps in drought-prone or sandy soils.
Expert Note
Zeolite and NPK Amendments
Superior Soil's use of Zeolite and NPK amendments provides a modern approach to plant metabolism and stress tolerance, ensuring long-term sustainability for the land.
